Our Purpose

SON, a ministry of Senior Ambassadors for Christ, exists to help fulfill the Great
Commission by networking maturing Christians and opportunities for service in the Kingdom
of God.
SON seeks to mobilize Christian retirees into volunteer service wherever they live or
would like to go in North America or abroad. In addition, SON seeks to help Boomers find
suitable career opportunities in missions.
Our role is to recruit more widely than most ministries can, but to leave the screening
and placement details to the agency.
We provide retirees and Boomers with information on suitable opportunities so that they
can contact you for more detailed information.
When you hear from one of our "Servants", you are under no obligation and should
exercise the same evaluation procedures you would when communicating with someone you
recruit directly.
Hundreds of mission agencies have listed thousands of opportunities.
Our database can match "Servants" to opportunities according to: type of work; length
of service; geographic location; and theological preference.
We target Christians over age 50, because they have maturity, wisdom, experience, time,
a depth of talent in vital ministry support activities, and many are financially
independent.

Our Approach

Our approach is to give "Servants" sufficient information on the
agencies and opportunities so that they can contact you for more
information (if interested), but not to give agencies information
on "Servants".

Agencies Served

SON was created to assist the recruiting efforts of North
American mission agencies and parachurch ministries. For
ministries headquartered outside of the USA or Canada, we require
a North American contact person, address and phone number. While
many "Servants" are open to serving abroad, they are more likely
to investigate opportunities which have a stateside contact.

Volunteers

Volunteers can do many behind-the-scenes tasks and projects;
thus, relieving your staff for responsibilities more suited to
their unique skills & experiences.

Do your regional representatives need help with correspondence
or banquet planning, etc.?

Are there things that are not getting attention because your
home office staff is stretched too thin?

Volunteers fall into two categories: long-term volunteers and
project volunteers. Long-term volunteers are generally willing to
work 5-10 hours per week if the opportunity is near their home
and up to 30 hours per week if they relocate specifically to
volunteer. They prefer to be given an area of responsibility
that they can own and a predictable schedule and work area.
Project volunteers are short-termers who usually travel to the
location and can be of most help by accomplishing a project of
limited duration.

Second Career Staff

Boomers in their 40's and 50's may be ready to consider moving
into Christian service for their second careers. They are likely
to apply to agencies that have opportunities that fit their
giftings. Unlike the 20 somethings, their call to missions or
ministry is not just a call to a cause. They have a keen
understanding of their strengths and want to see where their
career fits into the cause. Many of your present staff may be in
roles that are vital to your ministry, but are not utilizing
their strengths. Boomers with various business skills could free
your present staff for direct ministry.

Theological Considerations

For the purpose of computer matching, our system uses only
four broad theological traditions (charismatic, evangelical,
fundamentalist, and pentecostal). Other than denominational
labels, these are the terms most lay people understand and they
are more functional than denominations for computer matching.
Our desire is to direct people to agencies with which they would
feel comfortable.

Here is how we define these labels:

Pentecostal (Christians who are members or adherents of
Pentecostal denominations.)

Charismatic (Christians who practice the more charismatic
gifts, such as tongues and prophecy, but are not members of
pentecostal denominations.)

Evangelical (Christians who believe in the Trinity and the
inspiration of the Scriptures, but who do not believe that the
"charismatic" gifts of the Holy Spirit are applicable today.)

Fundamentalist (Christians who emphasize the literal
infallibility of the Bible, but who would not use the terms
"Charismatic", "Evangelical", or "Pentecostal" to describe
themselves or their church.)

Fee Structure

Our operating expenses are covered by a very modest fee structure
supplemented by contributions from ministry partners.
The annual listing fee is determined by the number of opportunities you
list:

$10 - agencies listing 20 or fewer opportunities
$25 - agencies listing more than 20 opportunities

In addition, we will ask you for a placement fee when a "Servant" serves
with you as a result of our efforts.

The Agency Placement Fee depends on the anticipated length of service.

None - if "Servant" will be serving less than one month
$10 - if "Servant" will be serving one to four months
$25 - if "Servant" plans to serve longer than four months
